Learning Approach
Five commitments shape every lesson at Desert Flower. They are not slogans.
Contextual Curriculum. Learning starts with the child’s own surroundings. Ladakh’s mountains, rivers, monasteries, villages and communities are the first classrooms, before a lesson reaches for anything further away.
Experiential Pedagogy. Children build, grow, experiment, perform and solve real problems. Knowledge becomes understanding through doing, not through memorising alone.
Higher-Order Thinking and Deeper-Order Feeling. Children learn to analyse and question, and at the same time to feel empathy, gratitude and care for what is right.
A Transdisciplinary Approach. Life does not split into subjects, so Desert Flower does not force it to.
Adhyatma. Not religious instruction. Time set aside to grow inner awareness through silence, reflection, conversation and service. It is protected on the timetable like any academic subject.
