How Desert Flower Began

Desert Flower’s founders could have tried to reform an existing school. They chose to build a new one instead, in Ladakh, within the community of the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives. Here the land itself reminds you that resilience, context and roots are not soft ideas. They are how anything survives.

The school is named after a wildflower that blooms every spring in a landscape where nothing should grow:

“A flower does not bloom by escaping the desert. It blooms by discovering the hidden spring within.”

That is how Desert Flower sees every child.
